Not yo mama's wallpaper!

I realize that most people's knee jerk reaction to the word "wallpaper" is to find a deep, dark corner and curl up into a little ball and rock incessantly back and forth.  The thought of this...

and this...
takes me back to my youth and the torture I endured...both visually and physically.

Back in the day wallpaper options were, well, limited.  The options included:  florals, stripes or plaid...or Holly Hobby themed.  And what made matters worse was the knowledge that if you didn't like the paper once it was up, you'd get to spend the next four days tearing and scraping it off one, measly little piece at a time...or so it was at our house.

Anywho, by the time I was married and had a place of my own to decorate I had had my fill of wallpaper drama, and had pretty much taken an oath that I would never, ever use wallpaper in my house.

...or so I thought.

Recently, I've began seeing wallpaper re-emerge into the decorating world and while the thought of tearing down paper still triggers an involuntary gag reflex, I'm kinda starting to warm up to the idea.  I liken it to childbirth.  You swear you will never put yourself through the pain and anguish of the process ever again.  But then a few years pass and over time you forget how bad it was and are ready for another go.  Well folks, that's where I'm at today.  I think I'm ready for another go {with wallpaper, not pregnancy}.

Here are some of my favorite wallpaper discoveries...I dare you not to fall in love.

I love these textural/paintable wall tiles made from bamboo pulp.  Fashionable and possibly edible?  I like that combo.

My love for all things mid century modern doesn't stop.  I love this retro inspired wallpaper and at $35 a roll it is a steal of a deal.  This paper paired with something delicious and wooden is a match made in heaven, methinks.

I love this star patterned wallpaper.  I've seen it on ceilings and in nursery's, but I think it is sophisticated enough for any room or wall in the house.

I love this wallpaper.  It's fun and young and blue...I'm a sucker for blue.

I love this funky, modern floral wallpaper.  What a vast improvement on the floral wallpaper I knew growing up.

Another blue and white wallpaper.

So, are you starting to get that warm, fuzzy feeling inside now too.  If not, just give it a little more time.  You will.

Don't be surprised if you see one of these wallpapers in my "almost fully remodeled" master bathroom.  I think I've finally settled on the one, but I guess you will just have to check back in to see to find out.
